Three fibers known for their quality, resilience and versatility are used in the coastal communities of Ecuador for making a fine line of hats, bags placemats and baskets. Thery are:

SAPAN or Banana Fiber which is taken from the stem of the banana plants. The natural brown colorations in the fiber are selected carefully to create interesting patterns in every piece.

CABUYA or Sisal, is a rougher fiber used for our woven handbags which are lined inside and finished with leather rims and leather straps.

TOQUILLA is a fiber that comes from a plant that is native to the coastal forests of western Ecuador. For years it has been used extensively in the Panama Hat industry. Today, villagers at the source are protecting the stands of Toquilla and have given their raw material added value by learning to use it as opposed to sending it all away to other markets as a raw material.
